Lion Arrives in Venice is an Italian jacquard wall tapestry. This artwork comes from Lion of St. Mark by Venetian painter Vittore Carpaccio (c.1460–1525/6). The Lion of Venice is an ancient bronze winged lion sculpture in the Piazza di San Marco (St Mark's Square) of Venice, Italy, which came to symbolize the city as well as one of its patron saints, St Mark after its arrival there in the 12th century. The Latin Phrase is an abbreviated form of the Venetian motto meaning: Peace to you, Mark, my Evangelist. Here your body shall rest.
